Arvind Kejriwal Arrested: Latest Updates

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was arrested by a government agency called the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 21st March. This happened because they suspect him of being involved in a case related to money laundering connected to the excise policy of Delhi.

The Supreme Court, which is the highest court in India, will listen to a request from Arvind Kejriwal and his party AAP, challenging his arrest by the ED. This hearing will take place today at 10:30 am. The ED is expected to take Kejriwal to a special court for further questioning and investigation.

On 21st March, the Delhi High Court, a different court, rejected a request to protect Arvind Kejriwal from being arrested in this money laundering case. This makes Arvind Kejriwal the first sitting Chief Minister to be arrested.

After his arrest, the Enforcement Directorate started searching Arvind Kejriwal’s home in Civil Lines, Delhi. Before this arrest, Kejriwal had ignored about nine summons from the ED related to this money laundering case.

On ED arresting Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Social activist Anna Hazare says, “I am very upset that Arvind Kejriwal, who used to work with me, raise his voice against liquor, is now making liquor policies. His arrest is because of his own deeds…”
