Fire Incident at Mahakal Temple in Ujjain: 13 Injured

13 people got hurt when a fire started in the ‘garbhagriha’ or the main part of Mahakal Temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday, March 25. It happened around 5:50 am during a religious ceremony called ‘bhasma aarti’ while they were getting ready to start another ceremony called ‘kapur aarti’ for Holi celebrations.

The injured people were taken to the local hospital, and some were moved to a bigger hospital in Indore. The district official, Neeraj Kumar Singh, said the fire started during the ‘bhasma aarti’ and that a government investigation will happen to understand what went wrong.

The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, mentioned on social media that he talked with the Chief Minister about the incident and that the local government is helping the injured.

The Chief Minister called it a sad event and said he’s been in touch with officials since morning, hoping everyone gets better soon. He also mentioned that everything is now under control and asked for prayers for the injured.

People who saw the incident said the fire started while they were throwing colored powder as part of the ceremony. There will be an investigation to find out more about how it happened.
